Off to Ha Noi

Well, today was a big day of travelling. Last night we packed up and this morning off to the Airport. HCMC airport is interesting. It still has the bunkers for fighters. Otherwise it is a standard issue place. Our Welcome House person was there to shepherd us and one of Hien's caretakers showed up to see her off. She is greatly missed, and we really got to see why later today.
We have been concerned with flying since we started. It is pretty scary for kids and the pressure changes can be hard on their ears. Well, we tried to come prepared, and gave Hien a bottle right at departure. The idea is that the swallowing would help equal pressure in her ears. 5 minutes later, she was asleep. The flight was flawless, and the pilot put the A320 down right on the numbers. Again, more fighter revetments at the airport, but then a surprising thing. A USAF KC10 was on the ramp. A USAF plane in Ha Noi seemed pretty amazing. Strange new world we live in.
Well, we are now set up at the Ha Noi Horison Hotel. We thought the HCMC New World Hotel was pretty nice, but this one is "off the hook". Glass elevators, walnut trim and desk in the room, incredible. They provide a happy hour on buffet, but it practically all really nice, expensive, but small hors d'oeuvers.
As with EVERYWHERE we have gone, the staff has been gracious, and helpful.
We did have a minor issue with the crib provided. It had nails sticking out and looked like a garage sale reject. PSBI staff made a call and we have a much newer safer unit. The bed sits a little high, so we may need to make a chage there. We'll see.
